Steel Dynamics is the 3rd largest producer of carbon steel products in the United States. It is among the most profitable American steel companies in terms of profit margins and operating margin per ton. Steel Dynamics may operate mini-mills, but it produces steel on a large scale. Steel Dynamics operates liquid iron-making facilities, ferrous and nonferrous steel scrap processing, and steel fabrication facilities. The company sells to companies in the automotive, construction, and manufacturing industries, as well as to steel processors and service centres, primarily eastern US. Among its mini-mill output are beams, rails, and other products used in the construction, industrial machinery, and transportation industries.
