  • Hello My name is Andrea Covington. I currently reside at Highridge apartments in Rancho Palos Verdes. This is me second complain regarding the care we are receiving from this community. on April 8th We were put out of our apartment, and its going on 3 weeks due to a leak in our ceiling and asbestos exposure. Originally our property manager informed me to call our renters insurance so we could arrange a place to stay during the then 7-10 day repair, as it was not there responsibility. To my surprise we have to use the insurance that WE pay for to correct this properties mistake. We are very clean and respectful to your property and have never damaged anything. We love and respect our home. So we left promptly as asked. We have camers in our unit and did not see any activity nor repairs happen until Wednesday April 12th. Which we have documented and filmed proof of such. After two weeks our insurance maxed out as we did not expect to need to use it past that duration of that time frame we were given. Our apartment was still not ready by when our insurance ran out on 4/20/2023. We then were put out without a place to stay for 2 days. I called Kathleen our manager on Sunday 3-4 times to see if they were able to put us up in a hotel and offer some solution as to where we could stay. Our daughter missed school that Thursday and Friday (and we have proof) because we didnt have a place to properly get her to school those days. We HAD to get her to school Monday 4/24/2023. Kathleen eventually called back after I sent an urgent email through this exact same email thread that I'm messaging now, begging for help. She advised that we should have called on 4/20/2023 and let her know what was going on, I advised her that Di' Angelo gave me a date of 4/22/2023 so we wanted to do our best to be respectful of that date and not try to complain or be a pain. We are exceptional tenants that try to work with the mishap. However since it was Sunday 4/23/23 we were desperate for help and sleeping in our car since we do not have family that resides in LA. We cannot afford to stay in a hotel room due to all the outside expenses we have had to pay to eat and travel since being asked to leave our home at Highridge. So Kathleen suggested that we be put in the guest suite at Highridge until the repairs are final. The guest suite was appreciated but incredibly small and uncomfortable for my family of 4. Including our cat. There are no pots to cook so we have had to continue to exhaust our funds and pay to eat out for every single meal. Yesterday 4/26/23 we were advised that there was a leak in the guest suite and that maintenance needed to come into THAT unit were all of our stuff is, and repair the leak that was trickling down into our property leasing office since the suite is directly above the office. We arrived back at our temporary suite in disbelief and disgust. They left power tools plugged in all over the small bathroom and kitchen areas in the suite. they left tools on my personal belongings in the bathroom which soiled them and we had to dispose of. The toilet was filled with vile as was the shower. We took video and pictures of the filth, and mess. There is no way anyone could live in such unsanitary unhealthy conditions. We have a small child and a cat and they were in danger of being around the power tools they left. Not only is our home filled with filth and disgust, not this temp unit is even worse. They advised us to use the bathroom in the unit next door if we had to shower or use the restroom. I urgently called essex for help and left a message. I refuse to call this property manager as she already neglected the seriousness of our situation. Once the maintenance men came into the guest suite to repair it she should have contacted us right away. This is inhumane. My family is in complete disarray, discomfort, and sadness. Our 10 year old daughter has missed school behind this and is falling behind. Her mental heath is in jeporady and she is becoming depressed having nowhere to comfortable sleep, eat, shower, due homework, and play with her toys. This is a horrible alternative . I've talked to her school and they are worried. My husband is a music producer and works from home. He has lost thousands of dollars in lost wages, sessions, and recordings from being away from his music equiptment and office space that we have at our home. It's affecting his business and lively hood. I also work from home and own several business' and have lost out on so much money and business opportunities being away from my home office for so long. To which we can prove all of these issues. Via emails, invoices, cancelled meetings ect. At the present time our house is in shambles and the workers have ruined so many of our personal items in our home. They moved all of furniture, scattered our household items everywhere, including taking all my clothes out of my closet and throwing them all over our bed. The comforter has paint all over it and our house looks like there is a squatter living in disarray. Our area rug is now black and ruied. We are now emotionally, physically, mentally, and financially effected by this nightmare. We have pictures, documentation, videos, emails, and logical proof of every facet of my complaint. We need to be put somewhere habitable, and treated with more respect. We pay $4,200 monthly to live in your community. We never have any issues, pay or rent on time every month, and have never once complained about anything. I would like a higher up to contact me to resolve this issue the right way. We are falling behind in all our other bills and we need assistance. Please!! Thank you. (323)501-6677
